“MAMMA MIA!” BRINGS MOVIES BACK TO USK
A capacity audience of around 200 gave “Mamma Mia!” a rapturous
reception at the Memorial Hall on Silver Screen Usk’s first cinema
night on 24th October. The Mayor of Usk, Cllr. Tony Kear, launched
the screening by presenting a cheque for £500 to Silver Screen’s
Chair, Kath Collis, and other members of the committee.
Thanking the team for all their hard work, Cllr. Kear, who has
supported the project from the start, reminded the audience of Usk’s
earlier cinema which ran during the 1950’s and ‘60s in Llanbadoc’s
“Red Shed”. There, the equipment was rather less state-of-the art
and the seating was certainly unique in that it had been taken from
old buses!
Cllr Kear invited members of the audience to share their many
colourful memories of the Red Shed and hoped that Silver Screen Usk
would inspire future “fond memories” of its own.
Kath Collis, Chair of Silver Screen
Usk, thanked the committee and team and all those who had helped the
project by way of fund raising, donations and general support.
She made special mention of Graham
Harris and members of Usk Conservation and Environmental Group,
members of Usk Town Council, GAVO, Usk Rotary Club and the Mayor,
Tony Kear, who has been a major supporter of the project from the
start. She was delighted to report we were now in a position to look
at buying our own equipment.
